Background
Working with a collaboration of public bodies, Devon County Council wanted to spread awareness of the important issue of road safety through the use of Internet technology. Offline campaigns were already in place, including a travelling play being delivered at schools and sixth forms across the South West, but the Internet was to play a key component in getting the message across to the target audience of 16 - 25 year olds.

Project Brief
'Under Pressure' was a joint initiative between Devon County Council and the Devon Road Safety team to emphasise the importance of road safety to an audience of 16 - 25 year olds, with particular emphasis on the potential effects that our decisions whilst driving have on ourselves and others.

In conjunction with a play that was being presented to schools and colleges across the South West, the website supported this important message with lots of interactive elements such as a quiz, forum and competitions.

Following on from the success of the 'Under Pressure' website, January 2009 saw the launch of a new website for 'Learn 2 Live' - a collaboration between Devon County Council, the Transport Executive, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and the Devon Air Ambulance.

With a similar aim to 'Under Pressure', but from a first person perspective, 'Learn 2 Live' incorporates video feeds from interviews of victims of road safety incidents. A comprehensive online marketing campaign to encourage top Google positions under appropriate phrases was delivered to ensure that the message of road safety was spread to as many people as possible.

The Outcome

'Under Pressure' was launched in January 2008 and received a very good response from the target audience of 16 - 25 year olds across the South West of England, with a positive take up of the interactive features on the site.

Although only a recent project, the 'Learn 2 Live' website has also received positive feedback and will no doubt continue to spread the importance message of road safety throughout Dveon and beyond.
